About the artist: Jessie Hazel Arms Botke (1883-1971) was born in Chicago, Ill. and studied art there before settling in Southern California. She travelled often painting the wildlife and landscapes she saw. Botke is known for her studies of birds in their natural settings. Her works are in many institutional and private collections around the world including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Municipal Gallery, Chicago, Mills College Art Museum, Oakland, CA, and the San Diego Art Museum, San Diego California.
